Undergraduate and Graduate Internships

CCEDIR offers a range of internship opportunities for IU undergraduate and graduate students across multiple programs. We encourage you to explore the positions below and follow the application instructions for any roles that interest you.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and positions will remain open until filled. While we aim to provide meaningful opportunities to as many students as possible, placement is based on program needs and availability.

Are you looking for an internship that isn't program-specific to GOAL or Hoosier Health Check? CCEDIR is open to having interns who would like to craft their own experience! While assisting with Hoosier Health Check and GOAL may be part of the internship experience, we are also looking for students who are passionate about areas including, but not limited to:

  • Community Engagement
  • Research
  • Data Collection & Reporting
  • Public Health

The CCEDIR Communications Intern will support the Center’s efforts to increase visibility, strengthen partnerships, and communicate cohesive messages across platforms. This role will assist with developing communications that highlight CCEDIR’s work, events, and impact. This position requires a flexible schedule with some in-person events including occasional evenings and weekends. Access to reliable transportation is necessary for off-campus events. Transportation will be provided by CCEDIR staff for events outside of Bloomington. Interested applicants should submit a resume and cover letter to ccedir@iu.edu

Responsibilities may include 

  • Develop and manage social media content to promote CCEDIR signature initiatives, events, and research  
  • Assist with drafting and distributing newsletters and other communications 
  • Create and update outreach and promotional materials 
  • Support website and content updates to ensure consistent messaging 
  • Assist with planning and promoting events, trainings, and workshops 
  • Translate research and program outcomes into accessible content for non-academic audiences 
  • Support general communications strategy and branding efforts 
  • Assist with other CCEDIR projects and events as needed 

Required Qualifications 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Demonstrated professionalism and reliability 
  • Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines 
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work 
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Interest in communications, marketing, public health, or related fields 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook) 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams) 
  • Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design tools 
  • Experience writing for newsletters, blogs, or other communications 
  • Public health or related academic background (preferred but not required)

The GOAL intern will serve in the position for at least one full semester (spring, summer, or fall) with an option to continue in future semesters if both parties agree. Work may involve any or all of the following:
  • Assist in planning and leading community programs, including the GOAL Family Program, GOAL Training, GOAL Family Fun Nights, and outreach events in schools or the wider community
  • Evaluate impact of programs by developing evaluation tools; collecting, entering, and analyzing data; and preparing reports and briefs for university leadership and community partners
  • Prepare equipment and supplies for programs
  • Help prepare trainings and materials for community partners or participating families
  • Create monthly GOAL newsletters
  • Maintain and create new content for GOAL website
  • Complete literature searches and assist with manuscript writing
  • Assist with other CCEDIR research projects and Hoosier Health Check health screening events as needed

Preferred

  • Experience working with children or families and feel comfortable interacting and communicating with them
  • Be reliable, able to demonstrate good time management across various tasks and responsibilities, and have strong oral and written communication skills
  • Have reliable form of transportation as events will take place in a variety of community spaces

The Hoosier Health Check (HHC) intern will support the HHC Program Manager, assisting with outreach, program implementation, and dissemination of research findings. Work will take place in person with some hybrid/remote availability. Work may involve any or all the following:

  • Assist with Hoosier Health Check events, including set-up, administering preventive health screenings, engaging with event participants, and preparing program evaluations
  • Attend various virtual HHC Team meetings monthly
  • Develop and update outreach materials (flyers, social media, etc.)
  • Assist with translating research findings for non-academic audiences
  • Evaluate impact of programs by developing evaluation tools; collecting, entering, and analyzing data; and preparing reports and briefs for university leadership and community partners
  • Prepare supplies for programs or events
  • Present volunteer recruitment presentations to classes on campus
  • Complete literature reviews, policy mapping, and assist with manuscript writing
  • Contribute to other projects related to HHC as assigned by the Program Manager or Data Analyst
  • Provide support for other CCEDIR projects, including GOAL, as needed
  • Complete required trainings to meet IU Research requirements and administration of various preventative health screening tools

  • Availability to attend half day and all-day events once a month respectively
