Our Mission
The overarching mission of the proposed Center for Community-Engaged Dissemination and Implementation Research is to support investigators and their teams conduct scientifically rigorous research in community settings throughout the U.S. The center aligns with the mission and goals of the IU School of Public Health-Bloomington by “improving the health of Indiana and beyond through community-focused and participatory initiatives.” Specifically, we aim to:
- Conduct community-centered research with a specific emphasis on examining long standing systemic social and health inequities placing groups that have been economically/socially marginalized (locally, statewide, and nationally) at increased risk of experiencing morbidity and mortality and lower quality of life.
- Disseminate evidence-based, empirically driven information on population health to community and other stakeholders, students, and the general public through a variety of mechanisms including peer-reviewed publications, strategic partnerships, program and policy briefs, social media, and organizational meetings and conferences.
- Facilitate community-engaged research (CER) and community-based participatory research (CBPR) training and professional development for future public health scholars and practitioners through both research experience and linkages to strategic partners on campus, other academic institutions, and organizations outside of academia.
- Collaborate with academic departments, institutes, and centers, as well as public and private agencies outside of academia, to promote population health and advance community-engaged scholarship and translational science.
