A VISUAL TIMELINE
The CCEDIR’s journey reflects years of relationship-building, community partnership, and a shared commitment to advancing health equity. What began as grassroots collaborations and early implementation efforts has grown into a vibrant connector hub for community-engaged research at the Indiana University School of Public Health–Bloomington. The CCEDIR continues to expand its reach—launching signature initiatives, strengthening cross-sector partnerships, training students, and co-creating solutions that make a lasting impact across Indiana, nationally, and globally.
Pre–2023 — Roots & Early Foundations
The CCEDIR’s foundations were built through long-standing community partnerships, early implementation research pilots, and the work of IU’s Office of Community Health Engagement and Office of Global & Public Health Partnerships.
2023 — CCEDIR Approved as a Center
Indiana University formally approves the creation of the Center for Community-Engaged Dissemination & Implementation Research (CCEDIR) at the School of Public Health–Bloomington.
2023 — Soft Launch & Early Momentum
- Development of the Community Advisory concept begins
- CCEDIR begins facilitating the longstanding IU Health/IU initiative Get Onboard Active Living (GOAL) — its first signature community–academic initiative
- Submission of the CDC Prevention Research Center (PRC) grant
- First community-engaged research symposium featuring Dr. Mickey Eder
2024–2025 — Official Launch, ENGAGE Framework, & Rising Visibility
- ENGAGE Framework formally introduced as CCEDIR’s guiding approach
- Immersive Community–Academic Partnerships (ICAP) launched through a Strategic Doing session
- Launch of the Community Academic Series
- Pilot of the CCEDIR BRIDGE (Building Research Ideas through Dialogue, Grant Development, and Engagement) established as the Center’s collaborative process for co-writing grants with community partners
- Official CCEDIR launch — October 4, 2024
- Wreath of Commitment Ceremony receives 22 partner pledges
- Multi-sector discussions and Strategic Doing sessions begin across Indiana
2025–2026 — Expanding Partnerships, Engagement, & Learning
- 200+ students involved across GOAL, Hoosier Health Check, and community-engaged research projects
- 150+ CCEDIR network members
- Development and strengthening of Center partnerships, including:
- IU SPH-B Nutrition Exercise Research Center (NERC)
- IU SPH-B Prevention Insights
- IU Center for Rural Engagement (CRE)
- Indiana Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI)
- Identification and promotion of principal investigator research aligning with CCEDIR’s mission including:
- Implementation science projects
- Mental health and substance use focused on building recovery capital
- Health equity and chronic disease prevention efforts
- Rural health
- ADRD literacy and research readiness initiatives
- Strategic Doing workshops implemented with partner communities
- Launch and growth of the Implementation Commons seminar series
- Continued scaling of immersive partnerships and community-engaged initiatives
